Prior to pursuing a career in law, Ms. Zhang received her bachelor’s degree in China and worked for over ten years in marketing. Ms. Zhang developed strong organizational skills and a keen sense of how to develop marketing campaigns that has become an asset in her work in law.
Ms. Zhang joined Neuberger & Partners LLP in 2016 after she graduated from Law Clerk program in Seneca College with High Honours with a GPA of 4.0 and having been placed on President’s Honours List. She was also awarded with the highest honours winning awards from Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in 2016.
After She joined with Neuberger & Partners LLP, she was encouraged and supported by Mr. Neuberger to pursue further legal education in the Part-time Paralegal Program at Seneca College. Ms. Zhang graduated with the High Honours again achieving a GPA of 4.0 . Ms. Zhang then successfully passed the Paralegal Licensing Exam of Ontario Law Society in 2020.
As a licensed paralegal of Ontario Law Society and member of Ontario Paralegal Association, Ms. Zhang’s areas of practice include defending clients charged with criminal summary conviction matters, Provincial Offences, and Small Claims Court matters. In addition, Ms. Zhang regularly appears before the Human Rights Tribunal on matters involving sexual and race-based harassment. In addition to her practice, Ms. Zhang assists as part of the “team approach” at Neuberger & Partners LLP with assisting at all levels of the defence of various types of criminal charges including high-profile and complex criminal cases. Ms. Zhang assists with the review of disclosure and evidence; the preparation of examination and cross- examination of clients and witnesses; legal research and often attends court for motions such a bail variations. Over the past four years, Ms. Zhang has worked successfully on over 250 criminal cases with Joseph Neuberger, the founding and senior partner at the firm.
Ms. Zhang is fluent in Mandarin and is well recognized in the Chinese community as a leading advocate of civil liberties and protecting the rights of those accused of criminal offences.
