Man faces drinking and driving charges after collision

A series of close calls and poor decisions can sometimes seem worse than it really is. However, when one of those decisions was to allegedly engage in drinking and driving, it throws everything else into a very poor light. A man faces multiple charges after an early morning incident, although no one was hurt and only his own vehicle was damaged.

On Jan. 14 York Regional Police officers responded to a call about a person allegedly driving erratically just north of Toronto around 6 a.m. The caller reported having to swerve to avoid a collision with an eastbound vehicle in the westbound lanes. An SUV matching the description given was found near the location given by the caller, and it appeared to have suffered damage in a crash.

An investigation is said to have revealed the vehicle had earlier crossed a median and then struck a wooden pole. The driver allegedly left the scene of the accident and continued on approximately 2 kilometers. The driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested and given a Breathalyzer test at the police station. He blew more than twice the legal limit and now faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, impaired operation of a vehicle, and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol rating exceeding 80 milligrams.

All drinking and driving charges are serious, but fortunately there were no injuries to the driver or other persons in this incident. Nevertheless, there may be unpleasant consequences for the accused driver-- if the charges can actually be proved in court. To help make the aftermath of this situation as positive as it can be, it may be advisable to search out a criminal law attorney. The experience of a lawyer familiar with the courts in and around Toronto may be very valuable in a case like this.
