Ontario pharmacist arrested for alleged drug trafficking

For those individuals with a checkered history, the fear is always there that past deeds may forever alter the way others perceive them. A southwestern Ontario man who once faced disciplinary action for drug crimes, finds himself in trouble once more. He and another individual have been arrested, and he now faces two counts of drug trafficking.

The accused is a 74-year-old pharmacist who had been working in Windsor and the surrounding area. Ontario Provincial Police officers arrested the pharmacist along with another man on Dec. 17. The specific charges against the second man were not reported, and no details about the alleged crimes were provided. The pharmacist will appear in court in Jan. 2017.

In 2011, the pharmacist was accused of stealing drugs from his employer, and of reselling prescriptions made out to himself and his wife. He pleaded guilty to the accusations and had his licence suspended for two months. No criminal charges were pressed, but he was barred from working for that employer in the future. In addition to the suspension, he was ordered by the Ontario College of Pharmacists to take an ethics course.

The accused man no doubt thought he had paid his dues and left his past behind him. It may be difficult, however, for him to be seen in a favourable light, given his prior transgressions. Drug trafficking charges are a serious matter for a person to face. Anyone so accused may wish to seek assistance from a capable and experienced criminal defence lawyer in order to have his or her best chance in a trial.
