Three facing charges for allegedly growing marijuana

Bancroft Ontario Provincial Police took three people who are believed to be involved in a marijuana-growing enterprise into custody. The three individuals are now facing drug charges for their alleged involvement in the crime.

Bancroft police found 163 marijuana plants in Limerick Township in a bush area, part of rural Bancroft. The discovery occurred after they received a report regarding a suspicious vehicle that was spotted in the area. The Ontario Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit, the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, the Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit all participated in the process. They searched the area and located the substances alleged to be marijuana.

Law enforcement officials estimate that the marijuana plants have a street value of approximately $163,000. Three individuals have been accused and charged with drug crimes in relation to the seizure. One 29-year-old Brampton man was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was also charged with production of marijuana. Two Waterloo individuals, ages 29 and 31, are also facing the same charges. All three were scheduled to appear in a Belleville court in September.

Individuals who are facing drug charges could face serious consequences if they're convicted. Convictions for drug charges may result in prison sentences and permanent criminal records. Hard drugs may cause individuals to incur longer sentences, if convicted. An Ontario criminal defence lawyer may be able to help a person accused of a serious drug crime. They may challenge a search and seizure if there was not probable cause for the search that led to incriminating evidence.
