Cornwall Task Force arrests 37 in marijuana ring

Local police agencies banded together to create a Regional Task Force, resulting in the arrest of 37 people throughout Ontario and other portions of Canada. These individuals face a variety of serious drug charges including trafficking marijuana.

The RCMP headed up this task force with their organized Crime team, but Cornwall, Akwesasne and Ontario Provincial Police were also involved. It also included CBSA and officers from the Ministry of Finance. The raid was entitled "Project O-TITAN" and originally targeted people who were suspected of smuggling in tobacco into the United States. However, the project then included targeting groups who were suspected of trafficking marijuana into the country.

All together, the Cornwall Task Force seized over 11,600 cartons of cigarettes, approximately 100 pounds of marijuana, $52,000 in cash, four guns, 17 automobiles and two boats that were used to allegedly facilitate the offences. Individuals who were arrested were residents of various areas, including Akwesasne, Bainsville, Cornwall, Ottawa, Prescott, the Province of Quebec, South Glengarry and South Stormont. They range in age between 18 and 66 years. These individuals are facing a variety of charges related to criminal organizations, smuggling tobacco, trafficking drugs, trafficking guns and forgery. Additionally, the task force dismantled two alleged grow operations. The Integrated Proceeds of Crime Unit of the RCMP also received a court order, restraining a residence in Cornwall from participating the grow operation of marijuana.

Ontario criminal defence lawyers help individuals who are facing drug trafficking charges. They help individuals who face a variety of serious charges, including conspiracy charges, trafficking heroin, illegally importing drugs, trafficking meth, drug distribution, organized illegal drug activity charges or other charges related to drugs and the violation of state laws or federal laws. They may be able to help defendants avoid serious penalties by crafting legal arguments based on the specifics of the case.
